Arlene Allen joined CSAC in 2005. She has been an employee of UCSB for over 32 years and was previously a student and part time employee. Her education is in mathematics, electrical engineering and computer science; she is currently employed in Information Systems. Arlene also serves on the Information Technology Leadership Council, a university-wide committee.

Arlene's hobbies are many, as she is interested in almost everything she has heard or read about. Major stress relievers are teaching exercise fitness, flying, woodwork and gardening.

Barbara Byrge has been part of the UCSB community for 12 years. She earned a BA in Psychology and is a member of the UCSB class of 2000. Her first role as a UCSB staff member was in Instructional Resources where she supported classroom computing and public events for five years. In that position Barbara enjoyed the opportunity to get to know a wide variety of faculty and staff from all departments. She moved on to a higher level technical position in the College of Engineering, working for the Engineering Computer Infrastructure. She enjoys her work, and meeting the daily challenges her job provides.

Barbara also has connected with many people on campus via her role in the Professional Women's Association. She completed the 3 year leadership term, and has also chaired and co-chaired several committees. Barbara is glad to have held roles on campus that helped to build her network, and she enjoys feeling connected to the campus community. This is her first of three years on CSAC, and she will research staff award & incentive programs which are offered UC system wide in hopes to enhance existing programs, and explore new ones.

Milinda Cuellar: I started working on campus in 1985 at the UCEN Post Office, and moved to Mail Services in 1987. I am now Supervisor, working with a great staff of 4 full time and 7 student employees. In addition to providing our service to the campus community, we also provide mail service to Francisco Torres Residence Hall students.

My outside activities include being a supporter of “Broadway in L.A.”- seeing plays with a group of 6 other aficionados of the theatre, more recently having seen performances of Rent, Phantom of the Opera, and Chicago, to name a few. I also enjoy spending time with family including 6 great-nieces ranging in age from 4-17 (and I love spoiling them).

My hope in being a CSAC member is to help encourage staff development and support the effort to bring staff housing and work/life issues to the fore front campuswide.

Shasta Delp works as an Analyst in the Academic Senate, advising the Graduate Council and the Committee on Diversity and Equity. She is a UCSB alumna and has worked at the University for five and a half years. A first year CSAC member, Shasta is interested in staff development and work/life issues.

Since then, he has advanced through the ranks to become Lead Developer for digital library projects at the Davidson Library. His work has centered on long-term digital archiving strategies and specialized digital libraries.

Like many full-time staffers, Justin believes in the mission of the UC. He also believes that without motivated, well-trained professional staff, UCSB simply cannot live up to its mission. As such, he wishes to use his time on CSAC to focus on issues that have a long-term impact on staff.

Outside of work, Justin pursues several creative hobbies, including sketching, digital music composition, and guitar. He also studies Kenjutsu, the Japanese art of swordsmanship.

Lupe Navarro-Garcia completed both her BA and MA degrees at UCSB. She began her career in the Educational Opportunity Program as a Peer Advisor and worked her way up to become its Director for Academic Services. She is concluding her final year as the Acting Director for Campus Learning Assistance Services. She has been an active member and officer in the Professional Women's Association and has served on the board of directors for various non-profits in the local community.

In her time away from work, Robin enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, gardening, volunteering, and spending time with friends and family.

Eve Rothfarb comes to UCSB after a lifetime in Minnesota, land of 10,000 beautiful lakes, snowy winters, and where the summer bird could well be the mosquito. While she misses her hometown, she managed to adapt quite nicely to Santa Barbara, a city surrounded by the ocean, mountains, beautiful flora and temperate climate year round, and, of course, her best friend, husband Lee Rothfarb. Upon her arrival to Santa Barbara, Eve found a job in the Billing Office, and then moved to her present position as Student Services Representative in the Office of the Registrar.

Besides her husband, Eve loves spending time with her three children, Ryan, Jack and Molly, all currently attending college, and her two cats, Miss Tea and Miss Sugar. And in her spare time, Eve researches her family genealogy. In doing so, she has had the excitement of discovering and meeting several distant cousins.

Dorothy Satomi is the Assistant Director for Finance & Operations in the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor. This is her second year on CSAC. She also enjoys music, travel and spending time with friends. She is also mommy to 2 cats, Franny and Zooey.

JoAnn Trento: I have worked in the UC system for over 31 yrs, 21 of those being here at UCSB in the Office of the Registrar. I supervise the Student Services area and enjoy the contact that I have on a daily basis, with students, faculty and staff.

Over the years, I have served on various committees in the Division of Student Affairs and volunteer on a yearly basis to assist with the Commencement Ceremonies.

Outside of work, I enjoy power walking, reading, gardening, arts and crafts and traveling.

I’m looking forward to being a new member CSAC and networking with other UCSB staff to improve the campus environment.

Laurel Wilder works as a Survey Research Analyst in the Institutional Research unit of the Office of Budget & Planning. She has been a staff member at UCSB for 7 years, and this is her third year on CSAC. She is currently serving as one of the CSAC Co-Chairs. Kathy Upton has almost 20 years of service at UCSB. She is currently a Senior Analyst in the Office of Academic Personnel. She has served in this position for the past several years. Kathy earned her Bachelor’s in Political Science from UCSB, and her Master’s in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.

This is Kathy’s third and last year on CSAC. She would like to see more alternative transportation solutions, such as giving cash incentives to UCSB faculty, staff, and students not to drive their cars, which would help ease the rush hour congestion we now experience.

Kathy has been a volunteer for the last several years for the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol. Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, as well as playing tennis, walking, reading fiction and biographies and traveling to her favorite cities of New York and San Francisco.
